Four Queenslands, and they do not photograph alike

A reef aerial and a Gulf country store have no visual language in common. Rather than average them into a single state page, the images below sit in groups that reflect how people actually search and how the prints actually hang.

The reef and the islands

The reef work is aerial. Heart Reef, QLD, Hook Reef, QLD and Upolu Cay, Great Barrier Reef, QLD were made looking down, which is why the colour is so much stronger than a surface photograph of the same water. Whitehaven Beach, QLD and Crystal Clear Waters, Whitehaven Beach, QLD carry the same palette on the sand.

The wet tropics

North of Cairns the light changes completely. Mossman Gorge, Mossman, QLD, Rainforest, Daintree, QLD and Millaa Millaa Falls, QLD were photographed under closed canopy, where the light arrives already green. Josephine Falls, QLD and Millstream Falls, QLD belong to the same group.

Cape York and the Gulf

Further north and west the country empties out. Chilli Beach, Cape York, QLD, Frangipani Beach Top of Cape York, QLD, Normanton Railway, QLD and Urandangie Store, QLD are the outback Queensland images, and they have more in common with the Northern Territory work than with the reef.

Fraser Island

K'gari sits on its own. Maheno Wreck, Fraser Island, Pile Valley, Fraser Island, QLD and Reflections Lake Boomanjin, QLD cover an island made entirely of sand, including rainforest growing on it.

Choosing by colour

Queensland is the strongest state in the catalogue for colour. If the room needs a blue, the reef images are the most saturated pieces here. If it needs a green, the Daintree and Atherton Tableland images are darker and work in rooms with less natural light.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Queensland prints are the most colourful?

The reef aerials. Heart Reef, QLD, Hook Reef, QLD and Living Jewel Heart Reef, QLD carry the strongest blues in the catalogue because they were photographed from above, where the water colour is not flattened by surface reflection.

Are the reef images underwater photographs?

No. The reef work in this collection is aerial, made looking down at the reef structure and the sand cays rather than from beneath the surface.

I need something for a room with very little natural light. What works?

The rainforest images. Mossman Mystique, QLD, Rainforest, Daintree, QLD and Chalahn Falls, QLD were photographed under a closed canopy in low light, so they are not relying on a bright room to read properly.

Do you ship to regional Queensland?

Yes. Delivery anywhere in Australia is included in the price of the artwork. Every piece is inspected before it leaves, packed for the freight method chosen and insured door to door. Made to order prints are usually dispatched within four weeks, and pieces at 40 inch and above are produced to order and take four to six weeks.
