Description
A parade of elephants makes its way down from the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, across the dusty red plain, to the marshes in Amboseli National Park in search of water. I love the contrast in this image of the burnt orange soil with the big blue sky and puffy clouds. Elephants are always very protective of their young. The matriarchs keep them close and help look after each other s calves. Babysitting other female s calves is important for elephant development and the survival rate of a calf greatly increases when more females are present to help take care of it. The benefit of travelling across open country is that the elephants can clearly see any potential threats, although it would take a very brave lion to attack an elephant in a parade. I think elephants are the true kings of the animal world they certainly are the biggest.
