Description
Pipeline, one of the most revered surfing locations in the world, is not for the faint-hearted. It takes real courage to take on this amazing break on a coral reef. And there is little mercy if you get it wrong on a big swell. I stayed several days with a friend who lives right on the beach and saw Pipeline in many different moods. One day, I saw a local surfer take off on a huge wave, only to wipe out and be crushed against the coral. Tragically, he died from his injuries and there was great sorrow in the community. But the next day, everyone was back out there to take on the challenge. I guess surfing is like mountain climbing or other extreme sports. Pipeline is just a magnet for surfers.
