I’ve called this image Kati Thanda in honour of the Indigenous people of the area, who first named the lake.  It is reputed to be a sacred name for the flat salt pan and it means “the name of the lake which was formed after the skin of a kangaroo was spread over the ground. Indigenous people believe the land itself records the stories of a place. And photos can evoke different emotions in different people. So, I feel it is not for me to try and tell you what this image may represent. For me, this particular picture is like a psychologist showing you an ink splatter and asking you to explain what you see. Everyone will have a different answer. I believe many of the images I’ve taken around Lake Eyre will speak for themselves and evoke different feelings in each of us. The landscape is like a parable – it has many levels of understanding.
