Description
As Jesus stumbles on the road, a woman somehow slips past the soldiers to offer him a drink. It is an act of great courage. The rest of the crowd has turned against Jesus and must be forcibly restrained by the guards from injuring him further. Alone in her compassion, the woman dares to be different from the surrounding mob. She reaches with her veil to wipe away some of Jesus? blood and offers him a goblet of wine. In the next moment the cup will be smashed to the ground by one of the soldiers. At the far corners of the scene we see members of the film crew watching, drawn irresistibly into the drama unfolding before them. Perhaps it is an image that begs the question of us all: How would we respond?
