Our guide in Finland was an avid bird photographer and his enthusiasm was infectious. So, when he invited us to go into a hide for the possibility of spotting eagles, I felt compelled to join him. Birds are not my speciality, but I felt if I went I would be blessed with a great opportunity. Although the outside temperature was -25 degrees Celsius, we were comfortable in the hide. For almost two hours, we remained completely still and silent, wondering if the eagle would ever come. Suddenly, we saw this magnificent bird suddenly fly into a nearby tree. Then, as if he knew I was ready, he came soaring right towards me. I just kept shooting to the point where the eagle more than filled the frame. I love this particular shot because you can see the intense look in his eye as he comes in for a landing, with wings spread wide and feathers gracefully splayed.
