About StoryShow +
Travelling near Cameron Corner, in the remote desert backblocks of South Australia, we came across this incongruous English double-decker bus. Its history was fascinating. Apparently it was one of two double-deckers driven into the region by some Englishmen on a journey. The buses were then sold to a local farmer here who used them as outstations where stockmen could eat, sleep and shelter. (Later I tracked down the second bus and photographed it too.) Seen here at sunset, with a full moon rising in the background and the dark red-ochre dirt stretching bare to the horizon, this scene presented a view of Australia that was both quirky and spectacular.
